Brachial Plexus Palsy

Diagnosis of Brachial Plexus Palsy

The initial management of brachial plexus palsy begins with the diagnosis by a neurological examination. When the brachial plexus palsy is identified then the family becomes educated about the condition and therapy that will need to be performed. Range of motion exercises must be performed to keep the muscles limber, and periodic assessments of motor strength will be taken.

The brachial plexus palsy is assessed by the infant’s muscle strength and arm and hand movements are measured frequently. There are different grading systems to note the strength of the child with brachial plexus palsy and is applied to each muscle and joint group.
